Inspired by William S. Burroughs book "Naked Lunch"

2014 - 2015

“Cut-up Windows of Truth”

It was in October 2014 that the artist inspired by William S. Burroughs book "Naked Lunch" used a technique called "Cut-up technique on Multi-Canvas layers". With this method by cutting the first layer of canvas he creates "windows" revealing a deeper painted canvas layer underneath. Multiple layers were created using the same principle.

These "cut –up windows" play the role of “existential windows" or in other words “Windows of Truth” that expose reality on deeper layers of canvas. On the surface we see the stereotypical mask while in deeper layers is revealed the inner self.

1. One example is the painting below of “Doc Bendway” from the Naked Lunch series: Cut-up technique on multi canvas layers Part 2.

Doc Bendway is a fictional character in the book of William S Burroughs who is presented in the stereotypical form of a well-dressed socially respected man, a surgeon, while his inner self is a sadistic monster that lacks any form of consciousness. The “accepted” painted square on the surface on the left plays the role of his social mask. However the two “Windows of Truth” on the right deeper layers expose his true existence.

2. A second example of “Windows of Truth” is the below painting "Queued up for pornography" from the Naked Lunch series: Cut-up technique on multi canvas layers Part 1.

Close to the center and a little bit to the left of the work a cut-up “Window of Truth” is exposing in a deeper painted layer of canvas the face of the spectator that is watching the pornographic material.

3. A third example of “Windows of Truth” is the below painting "Totalitarianism pissings” from the Naked Lunch series: Cut-up technique on multi canvas layers Part 2.

On the first layer of canvas (bottom – left) we see the “Cat in a box” philosophy of Totalitarianism. The cat (a known animal symbol of freedom due to its independence) painted inside a box is symbolizing the square uniform shaped logic of Totalitarianism suppressing every human freedom and diversity  to fit in a common stereotypical box.

(A totalitarian regime attempts to control virtually all aspects of the social life, including the economy, education, art, science, private life, and morals of citizens. The officially proclaimed ideology penetrates into the deepest reaches of societal structure and the totalitarian government seeks to completely control the thoughts and actions of its citizens.)

However, on the right side of the painting we see the “human imperfect”. A naked not well shaped and disproportional body of a man that is actually peeing on the box of Totalitarianism protesting on this one size fits all zombie philosophy that cannot tolerate.
